I have taught at university level since 2015 at five universities in the UK, and as a visiting scholar in China. I enjoy catering sessions to student and organisation needs in 1:1 or group sessions, so we'll always start with getting a good idea of your needs and tailoring everything appropriately.
You can book a 1:1 meeting directly with me using the app below - you can also add others to this meeting (course friends, translator, etc). I only charge based on my time in the meeting, so it doesn't matter how many of you there are (though I suggest small groups).
If you're unsure whether to go for 30 or 60 minutes, start with 30. Even if you feel there's a quite a lot to work through, we can use a first 30-minute session to set out some realistic targets, followed by your self-directed study through those, and then a second 30-minute session to follow up at a time/date that suits you.
Generally, I use a mix of structured and open discussion, resource packs, and task setting. The aim is to build understanding and confidence that can be applied practically, whether that's in the seminar room, a dissertation, or engaging with research and evidence.
My background is in an area of social science called political ecology, though I have a broad teaching and research history within social sciences, including research methodology from undergraduate to doctoral level. I also have a keen interest in the ethics of technology, digital, and AI. I specialise in qualitative research.
I have taught at five universities in England, Wales, and Scotland (where I am based), including designing and running social science modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I hold a PhD, Masters with Distinction, and BA (Joint Hons) in social sciences / politics.
I also have a background in non-governmental organisations and have been invited to give evidence to Scottish and UK parliamentary committees. I continue to work with organisations in Scotland to help build bridges between academia and real-world practice on issues including social and environmental justice.
I do not produce any submittable work for students under any circumstances. I only help students who feel they would benefit from a little extra tuition. I always suggest students first make the most of their university's or institute's services, such as their personal tutor or academic services, for more general help.
